NorthMind Longboarding and Barangay Camaman-an presents the 3rd Kasadya Festival Mayday BKG 2016, a downhill longboarding competition, on May 6 and 7, 2016, at Barangay Camaman-an. This is an annual longboarding event now on its third year.

This downhill longboarding competition is also brought to the public by April Suits and Grind, the non-stop action sports shop. The pre-registration is already a done deal last April 11 – 20, 2016. Other sponsors include Big H Skate Co., Vamos Socks, Freeride Skateshop Phil., 8a Performance Multisports, mylifeonboard.net, District Tree Longboards, Driftwood Local Enterprise, Devil Curve Wear, Xavia International Racing, Zeal Decks Cebu, Swicked, Sovereign Skate, JSS Joint Skate Shop, Ultra Winds Mountain Resort, Kick Engines Skateshop, Reef Side Artworks, Hip Me, Quirky Threads Your Local Lifestyle, DC, and GN Downhill Skateboarding.

Boardsport is defined as an extreme sport played using a board as the primary equipment, usually associated with surfing, skim boarding, skate boarding, long boarding, snowboarding, wake boarding, kite boarding, wind surfing, and the like. Long boarding is actually an extended version of a skate board and its specialty is downhill traversing and speed racing. It is now a recognized extreme action international sport performed all over the world.

Participants to the competition will be competing in three major categories: Open, Women, and Junior, with sub-categories in Slide Jam, Best Trick, Longest Stand Up, and Longest Pucks Down. The cash prizes for the major categories are:

Open Division Category –

1st – P4,000

2nd – P3,000

3rd – P2,000

Women’s Category –

1st – P2,500

2nd – P2,000

3rd – P1,500

Junior’s Category –

1st – P2,500

2nd – P2,000

3rd – P1,500

There will be a free ride registration fee of P200 for all participants, and even non-participants who plan to bring long boards with them. No registration means no free ride. Marshalls will take the boards of free loaders in order to enforce minimal accidents. The organizers are also strict about the no helmet, no race policy, the no skin showing policy (participants must wear pants, rashguards, protective pads, etc., and the no borrowing of gears policy during the race to avoid delays.

During the event the road uphill road will be closed for the event. The official program is as follows:

May 6, 2016 (Friday)

11:00 a.m. – Assembly and final registration at the Camaman-an National High School

1:00 p.m. – Free Ride

2:00 p.m. – Elimination Round All Categories

4:20 p.m. – Slide Jam

May 7, 2016 (Saturday)

7:00 a.m. – Call Time

8:00 a.m. – Warm Up, Practice Runs, and Free ride

9:00 a.m. – Race Proper Continues for All Categories

11:30 a.m. – Lunch Break

1:00 p.m. – Race Resumes

5:30 p.m. – Awarding Ceremonies

A total of 64 pre-registrants will be participating for all categories. For skaters below 18 years of age, a Release of Liability Waiver, has to be signed by a parent of legal guardian. This is because downhill and free style long boarding is considered an extremely dangerous activity so participants assume the risk of injury or death.

After the Mayday BKG 2016, an open long board and skateboard competition called May Jay Skate Bowl Competition is scheduled starting May 8, 2016 and onwards. The registration fee is P200 per participant. The competition will be at the Oro Skate Park in Biasong, Macasandig.
