How it All Started with Ah Fong
It all started out of the proprietor’s desire to introduce authentic and delicious Asian cuisine to Cagayan de Oro market. She thought that there were only few restaurants and go-to places that offers these kind of dishes. Thus, Ahfong opened on August 24, 2014 and will soon be celebrating their first year anniversary.
AH FONG ASIAN CUISINE serves authentic Asiatic food rarely served in other restaurant.
What makes AH FONG ASIAN CUISINE stands out from the rest is that the food they serve really captured the taste for those who are craving for Asian dishes.
The Proprietor, Ms. Nelia Lee
Ms. Lee is a native of Cagayan de Oro and had managed one of Cagayan de Oro’s finest hotels. Presently, she is the President of the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA) for the year 2015-2016. Ms. Lee basically is a half Chinese since her father is a Cantonese. During her high school years she had to start working to help support her siblings after her father died. She took up Accounting and Business Management at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. She is also a Rotarian, a member of Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, East Urban.
The Manager, Mr. Ramil Octobre
The present manager of AH FONG, Mr. Ramil S. Octobre had worked as a credit and collection officer in a reputable establishment in the city. He is friendly, witty and approachable person. He kindly answered our all our questions about the establishment. He took up Education at Bukidnon State College Annex Manticao. We shared some really good laughs while learning a lot from him as well in our discussion. Under his management, the restaurant is going well not only because of the delicious foods but of the personalized customer service they provide.
The Overall Restaurant Experience and the Food
For a newly opened restaurant, the ambience in general is cozy and comfortable and certainly looks and feels like a truly Asian Restaurant complete with an instrumental Chinese music. The place is surprisingly quiet in spite of the noise outside Grand Central lobby area. The proprietor named the restaurant in honor of her late father, Ah Fong.
The restaurant generally caters mostly to families and professionals with the occasional group of friends or employees looking for delectable yet affordable dining experience. Although most its specialty is Chinese but the menu concept is Asian. The management boast that their bestsellers are the Patatim, Pancit Canton, Steamed Lapu-Lapu in soy sauce to name a few.
AH FONG ASIAN CUISINE is located at the Ground Floor of Grand Central, Pabayo corner Hayes Streets (in front of Home Radio).
They were one of the first tenants on the ground floor when Grand Central opened.
They also have function room that can accommodate up to 30 persons with a consumable of P3,000.00 for 3 hours. They also accept catering services for outside occasions. Catering pricing will depend on the chosen menus.
They were actually the caterer when the Department of Tourism opened their VIP Lounge at Laguindingan Airport last December 2014.
Promos and Upcoming Events
For their anniversary thanksgiving special they are offering free drinks to diners for the whole month of August. At present, they have “AFTERNOON TREATS” like LUMI, CONGEE, and MAMI that are serve from 2:00 p.m. up to 5:00 p.m. for only P75.00 only.
Ms. Lee and Mr. Octobre were very accommodating and even allowed us to experience the authentic Chinese foods that AH FONG ASIAN CUISINE can be proud of. Based on what we experience we can safely say that their dishes were really delicious (awesome as one of our colleagues described it) one thing for sure we will definitely come back and bring our families and friends along.
