In an article from Sunstar Cagayan de Orobamboo propagation and planting will be carried out to solve the incidences of riverbank erosion in CdeO as was proposed by the City Local Environment and Natural Resources (CLENRO) in its campaign for promoting a green environment.

Clenro head Edwin Dael said that the program will be formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between CdeO City Mayor Oscar Moreno, volunteer groups, and officials of the barangays where the project will be put in operation.

Clenro is now preparing over 1,500 bamboo seedlings to be planted in the riverbanks of Umalag River, Bigaan River, and in barangays Consolacion and FS Catanico.

Dael said the volunteer groups will be the ones who will be leading the program.

He noted that the work does not end after the bamboo seedlings are planted but continues with the propagation and protection against harmful conditions that affect their longevity.

According to Dael, the benefits of using the bamboo plant in the project is its ability to improve the quality of the soil as well as giving it enough moisture and stability as seen, especially, in riverbanks. He said that bamboo is used to prevent landslides, land degradation, and soil mass movement, such factors that the rivers in the city are vulnerable to.
