In an article from Inquirer New Website, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 10 said that it is still puzzled over the death of hundreds of  sardines at Barangay Tablon in Cagayan de Oro City last Sunday, September 3, and has not yet figured out the reason of the massive fish kill.

According to Dr. Jennifer Marie Rivero, veterinarian at BFAR, the fish kill could be the result of the water quality change, illegal fishing practices, and the release of manufacturing wastes into the sea.

Just after the incident happened, many residents who lived nearby the shore picked up the dead sardines to eat. Though there were no reported cases of food poisoning, Rivero reminded the public to refrain from eating as the cause of the fish kill is still unknown.
