September 8 was very special for some people, especially the Catholics- and the devotees of the Virgin Mary or the “Marian” devotees. On this day, we are celebrating the 2,033rd birth anniversary of Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Mary’s life and role in the history of salvation is written in the Old Testament, while the events of her life are recorded in the New Testament. She was the daughter of Sts. Joachim and Anne and born in Nazareth, Jerusalem.

Mary presented herself to God in the Temple and took a vow of virginity. Then, one day she was visited by an archangel Gabriel who announced to her that she will get pregnant of the savior- Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit.

Mary is venerated by St. Thomas of Aquinas her main events of her life are celebrated as liturgical feasts of the universal Church.

She became engaged to St. Joseph and went to visit her cousin and gave birth to the Savior- Jesus Christ in Bethlehem.

In an article posted by ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao, thousands of devotees gathered in the Divine Mercy shrine to celebrate the birthday of the greatest saints of all Christian- the Blessed Virgin Mary last Friday, September 8.

There were 5,000 estimated pilgrims who stayed overnight at the shrine and prayed and sang around 2:00 AM for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then the Marian devotees paraded her image around the shrine to mark her 2, 033rd birth anniversary.

The celebration also corresponded to the 9th anniversary of the world-renowned Divine Mercy Shrine.
