President Rodrigo Duterte intends to spend up to P9 trillion in the next six years to establish new roads, bridges, and transport terminals as he wants to mend the country’s weakening infrastructure.

According to a report from ABS-CBN News, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said on Monday,  November 28,  that the government will conduct a feasibility study of constructing a bridge link between Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. He added that this construction is expected to generate at least one million jobs.

Diokno disclosed that he would inquire the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to scrutinize the possibility of connecting the country’s three main islands through a bridge.

He added that apart from the construction, the new jobs will be generated in the tourism and manufacturing sectors.

He also said that economic growth will increase by 10 percent when favorable public spending and strong consumption, joined with the expanded investments once foreign ownership restrictions are lifted.
