After the military regained full control of Butig, Lanao del Sur and flushed out members of the Maute group, the town’s houses including schools and mosques were left in shambles.
The six-day firefight has almost decimated the town leaving cases of ammunitions and bullet holes in almost all infrastructure. According to a report from ABS-CBN, the Maute group were already withdrawing towards the mountains.
The vicinity of the town is still in a danger zone as IEDs (improvised explosive device) may still be planted on the ground. At least 61, terrorist have been killed while 35 soldiers are wounded according to the latest report from AFP.
ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman urged the national government to station military troops in Butig to prevent the Maute Group to re-occupy the town.
