Paragliding is officially now available in Cagayan de Oro City! The operators, called the Cagayan de Oro Paragliding, are now operating from its fly site at the Hugo Skye Lounge at Sierra de Oro in Indahag. They are now accepting bookings for their paragliding flights for September 29 and 30 and on October 1, 2016. Other flight schedules will be announced later. Imagine flying overhead and overlooking the city and taking a selfie in the air. Probably the ultimate experience in your lifetime.
Paragliding is a recreational and adventure sport of flying para-gliders. The gliders are lightweight, free-flying, and foot launched usually from a high point. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below the wing area. The glider’s wing shape is maintained by suspension lines and the pressure of air entering the wing and aerodynamic forces of the air flowing over the outside. Paragliding can often last up to two hours if skillfully exploited by the pilot. A tandem harness can also be used so a pilot instructor and novice can fly together.
Forward or reverse launching (depending on the speed of the wind during launch) is normal from a high point. Paragliding can also be done by launching from the ground towed by a vehicle and eventually released when the glider picks up enough altitude (around 3,000 feet), speed, and air.
To land a para-glider which cannot abort a landing, this involves some specific techniques and traffic patterns. Paragliding pilots most commonly lose their height by flying a figure of 8 over the landing zone until the correct height is achieved, then line up into the wind and give the glider full speed. Once the correct height (about a meter above ground) is achieved the pilot will “stall” the glider in order to land. Back in Cagayan de Oro, one of the very first to try out paragliding was Vice-mayor Ryan Pabellan in a tandem flight with pilot instructor Buko Raymundo.
According to Cagayan de Oro Paragliding, their Tandem Paragliding rate is P3,500 per person. This also includes a video copy of your flight. Flying time is around 10 to 12 minutes from the launch point from Sierra de Oro until you reach the ground. Booking must be done at least one week to a few days before the flight. There is no booking fee or reservation fee. You can get in touch with them on 09194741131 or 09278204297.
