The city council of Cagayan de Oro is now studying a proposal by a bus company to cut bus fares when catastrophes strike the city. An article posted on Sunstar.com reported City Councilor Teodulfo Lao said last May 2, 2017 that they received a letter from bus company Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. (RTMI) proposing that regular bus fares be reduced during calamities.

RTMI Administrative Manager, Cele A. Estologa, said said they are looking to cut a regular one-way bus fare of PHP 145.00 to PHP 85.00 and also the special- privilege rate from PHP 115.00 to PHP 85.00 when calamities like flooding occur.

A regular calamity sponsor, RTMI believes that the cutting of bus fares during calamities will be a big help to alleviate the situation of affected families until their recovery is already is guaranteed.
