For the past three years, the JR Borja General Hospital otherwise known as City Hospital in Cagayan de Oro City has been undergoing developments towards achieving a tertiary level status to be known as a Medical City.

In an article from CDeO News Bulletin, the City Hospital administration is working on the upgrading of personnel development, structural and organizational structure based on the requirements from the  Department of Health (DOH).

According to the City Hospital head Dr. Ramon Nery, the plans to upgrade the hospital to tertiary is supported by the City Moreno- Mayor Oscar Moreno and has been successfully implemented with the coordination of the city’s current council headed by Vice Mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy, Department of Health (DOH), Civil Service Commission, Non -Government Organizations (NGOs), and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Moreover, Nery said that one of the requirements needed to achieve the hospital’s tertiary status is having an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that is necessary for creating a “step-down care” essential to patients who will benefit it.
