Pumped up in bringing home the bacon, 13 Cagayan de Oro chess players will compete in the 2017 National Age Group Chess Championships finals in Robinsons Galleria, Cebu City.
According to an article on Sunstar Cagayan de Oro, among the hopefuls are the Canino siblings, Romeo, Ronald, Rhea, and Ruelle, who have represented the country before in the Asean Age Group Chess Championships. Romeo, the eldest, will compete in the under- 18 boys’ category while Ronald, Rhea and Ruelle are already conditioning themselves for their respective categories, under-14 boys, under-12 girls and under-10 girls.
Another set of CDO players are Samantha Balquin, under-8 girls, Chargaets Andres and Joe Gawyn Jr. in the same under 10-boys group, David Ancheta in the under 12-boys category, and Janiella Maeren Garcia in the under-10 girls.
Also seeing action are Clyde Harris Saraos (under 14-boys), Adrian Othniel Yulo (under 16-boys), Me Ann Baclayon (under 16-girls), and Tristan Ibaoc (under 18-boys).
The top-three winners of the each category will be sent to Asean.
