On July 29, Friday, 12:10pm after receiving reports from intelligence units, the Military intercepted an abandoned white Toyota Innova car carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that are set to be transported to Cagayan de Oro City.

The people who are in the car escaped after knowing about the Military’s pursuit of them, leaving the car behind in Barangay Lilod.

A 105mm howitzer ammo with a phone that serves as a detonator was found inside the car! Special Action Force (SAF) uniform, several documents supporting the Islamic State (IS) ideology, and a camera were also found inside the car.

Based on an investigation conducted after the interception, it was found out that the car is owned by the Maute family in Butig town.

Abdullah Maute is the head of the IS Ranao, a group that has been blamed for various bombings in Mindanao in the recent years. The group has been known to have pledged to the international radical group Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.

It was known that Abdul Rahman, a senior member of the Khilafah Islamiyah Movement (KIM) is supporting IS in its sinister activities in Mindanao.

One of its prominent bombing activities done by the group are the July 26, 2013 bombing in Limketkai shopping complex that killed eight people and the October 11, 2012 Maxandrea Hotel blast.

They are also responsible for the bombings that transpired in Iligan City, Cotabato City, and Bukidnon Province.
