24 May City Health Office confirms 300 individuals positive with HIV in CdeO

Joey Retuya, epidemiologist at the Cagayan de Oro city health office, said last Sunday, May 21 in observance of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day that there are already 300 confirmed cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in CdeO .
In an article from northboundasia.com, Retuya called on the media to be the prime information disseminator about HIV/AIDS instead of portraying it as a menace in the society. With that, he added that the media should inform the public on how to avoid contracting the disease at the same time encourage those who are affected to come out as early as possible for immediate treatment.
The city government of CdeO is also doing its part to help those infected by HIV by providing antiretroviral drugs that will suppress the HIV virus from multiplying in their body and will also strengthen their immune system.
Evelyn Magsayo of Department of Health (DOH) Region 10 said that as of March 2017, there are already 968 cases of HIV in the whole country with a total of 42, 272 nationwide recorded cases since 1984.
