A convict detained in Cagayan de Oro city jail in Barangay Lumbia was spotted attempting to smuggle contraband goods inside the jail.

According to a report from Sun.Star, the inmate was trying to smuggle the items after the court hearing on December 5, Monday afternoon.

The convict is identified by Jail warden Superintendent Ferdinand Pontillo as Jeovan Nafarrete, aged 25, detained for violating the Section 5 (Selling) and Section 11 (possession) of the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The jail guards were conducting a regular inspection to inmates after regular hearings, Pontillo said, adding that they have confiscated two packs of cigarettes, a cellphone and three sachets of suspected shabu from the suspect.

Nafarrete may have acquired the contraband upon returning to their respected cells following the court hearing, Pontillo said.

The confiscated sachets of suspected shabu were forwarded to the  Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency laboratory for examination.

The convict may be facing additional charges after the committed crime, said Pontillo.

Nafarrete has been imprisoned at the City Jail since June 2016.
