DTI Expands Livelihood Programs For IDPs

DTI expands livelihood programs for IDPs

In an article from Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) augmented its efforts in provide livelihood programs for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Marawi City.

After a visit to an evacuation center at Sta. Elena Evacuation Center, Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry, Zenaida Maglaya, said that a livelihood assistance is the best help that the government could provide for the IDPs.

She said that having a source of income is very important for IDPs so that they could use something for their daily needs and consumption rather than depending their lives on the government.

Pursuant to that, the Provincial Technology and Livelihood Development Center of Lanao del Sur supplied 20 sewing machines to the IDPs so that they could start working on “Malong” production.

The 275 produced malongs by the IDPs were displayed in the Kahimunan Trade Fair in SM CDO Downtown Premier, Cagayan de Oro City and in LDS GO Negosyo Center in Camague, Iligan City.

Furthermore, DTI provided P5,000-worth starting kit which consists of clothing and sewing materials with additional 100 sewing machines provided by the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) through the DTI.

Also, DTI negotiated with Robinsons-Iligan, Gaisano-Iligan and SM Cagayan de Oro to accommodate IDP traders or sellers.
