In an article posted by Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, some government officials defended Father Teresito “Chito” Suganob’s limited presence in the press briefing of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Department of National Defense (DND) at Camp Aguinaldo yesterday, September 19.

The press briefing serves as Fr. Suganob’s first public appearance after he was saved by government forces from being held as a hostage for three months by the  Maute terrorist group in Marawi City.

According to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao 1st District Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong, Suganob did not appear before the media to answer questions as a proof that he was saved by state forces, although he said that Suganob’s security and health is their utmost concern as the priest is now undergoing medical check-ups.

On the other hand, Suganob said that he prays daily for the end of the war in Marawi City and for the lives of his companions.

He added that God answered his prayers that he would be among those who will be saved by the military while he and other hostages were detained inside the Mosque Ali by the terrorist groups under the leadership of Omar Maute.

Suganob is the Vicar General of St. Mary’s Cathedral when the terrorists attacked the city last May 23, 2017.
