FREE Hospitalization and Medicines Starting in 2017

Good news for new year, Health Department chief disclosed that hospital and medicine bills will be free next year, 2017.

According to a report from GMA News, Health secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial stated on December 17, Saturday that Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) cards are no longer needed, patients only need to prove that they are Filipino and that PhilHealth will shoulder the hospital billings and other concerns. This good news was announced during her visit to the Integrated Provincial Hospital Office (IPHO) in Maguindanao.

She added that the financial standing of the Department of Health is good after the Department of Budget and Management increased their funds.

The funds will cover the hospital needs of the poor and indigent Filipinos.

The Health secretary said that this is the first in DOH’s history that President Duterte has strived efforts and those poor patients will leave hospitals with no billings balance.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and other government agencies will also contribute for the free medicines.

Ubial also said that medicines will be free as patients can have it from the government health program.

Ubial cited President Rodrigo Duterte who told her, “Just take care of the poor, I’ll take care where to find the money,” which gave her assurance.
