In an article posted by ABS-CBN News, explosives and ammunition owned by the government were found inside a van at a checkpoint in Amoros, El Salvador, Misamis Oriental last Monday Morning.

Police investigators identify the suspects as Jerry Balabat, the driver of the van; his wife, Amalia Balabat; and Sergio Pangantihon from Polomolok, South Cotabato.

Police Inspector Richard Catipay said that the suspects were traveling to General Santos City from Marawi City. Upon checking the van, police discovered 150 pieces of fired 7.62mm cartridges, 164 pieces of cal. 50 fired cartridges, six boxes containing 7.62mm live ammunition, 50 rounds of 60 cal. live ammunition, and others including six M-203 grenade launcher ammunition.

Catipay added that based on the markings of the boxes, the equipment was from the government arsenal of  Marawi City.

The driver of the van defended that they were not aware of the ammunitions inside the van as they were only hired and were paid P8,000 just to deliver the items to GenSan.

As of this writing, authorities are yet to confirm if the suspects were connected to any terrorist group. They will also be charged with illegal possession of ammunition and explosives.
