Village Captain in Medina Apprehended for Forged Money and Illegal Possession of Firearms

Following a joint operation, a village chief was apprehended on November 15, Tuesday for allegedly producing fake money and for illegal possession of firearms.

According to a report by Sun.Star, the authorities have identified the suspect as Bertuldo Yamit, village chief of Purtolin, Medina, Misamis Oriental who had in possession around P250,000 worth of counterfeit money and three pieces of $10,000 bill.

Under the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines, Yamit have violated Article 166 or the forging treasury or bank notes on other documents; importing, and uttering such false or forged notes and documents; Article 168 or the illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit, and Article 176 or the manufacturing and possession of instruments or implements for falsification.

Officials from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and members of Cagayan de Oro Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CDO-CIDG), Provincial Public Safety Companies and the Regional Special Operations Group conducted the joint operation which successfully arrested the suspect at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in Medina.

One unit of homemade improvised shotgun magazine loaded with three live ammunition, one unit snub-nosed .38 revolver, 5 shooter S and W primed with five live ammunition, one unit of .38 revolver readied with six live ammunition with SN 1242565, two pieces of live ammunition for shotgun, three pieces of live ammunition for .45 pistol and two mobile phones were confiscated from the suspect.

Yamit has been brought to the custody of CDO-CIDG and will be charged with violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or the illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and the violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

On the other hand, Senior Police Officer 4 Noel Oclarit warned the residents of Purtolin and the neighboring towns in Misamis Oriental that the counterfeit money may have been disseminated in the area.
