In an article from Sunstar.com, this year’s graduates of Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus from Marawi City attended their graduation rites at the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in Iligan City yesterday, July 13.

Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Datu Abdul Khayr Dangcal Alonto served as one of the speakers of the 52nd commencement exercises of MSU-Main got emotional when he delivered his speech.

Alonto said in his speech that the diverse population of Marawi City, Maranaos or non-Maranaos, together can still go back to their normal lives and rebuild the war-stricken city once again. “We are Marawi! Together, we will go hand in hand, Maranaos or not, in rebuilding the city, our city,” he said.

The graduates who attended the ceremony only consist of less than half of the original students who are eligible for graduation. The other portion of the graduates filed for absentia so that they will not have to attend graduation.

It was remembered that when the armed conflict in Marawi City broke out, students and members of the faculty of the MSU-Main Campus were forced to leave the city and transferred to MSU-IIT.

During the graduation rites, it was also announced that the school will be opening its campus for enrolment and classes this August.
