19 Jul NEDA forecasts CdeO to become Mindanao’s fastest developing urban area

In an article from Business World Online, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia said during the National Economic and Development Authority’s (NEDA) launching of the Regional Development Plan (RDP) for Region 10 that the city of Cagayan de Oro may overtake Davao in the list of the fastest growing urban areas in Mindanao.
Pernia said that CdeO, as predicted by the National Spatial Strategy, has a high potential to become the fourth metropolitan center in the country by the year 2025 alongside Metro Manila, Metro Cebu, and Metro Davao.
The projected advancement of the city was based on its expected population growth statistics and its strong mobilization in the shipment and cargo industry.
Pernia said that the framework is directed towards the promotion of Northern Mindanao as the gateway and main “industrial and trade center in the southern island” of the Philippines.
It is also expected to even more boost the competitive rate of crop production in the region and the development of other industries in manufacturing, social enterprise, and science and technology.
