Sen. Manny Pacquiao together with the Philippine Sports Commission is now hoping to find talented new boxers in Mindanao who might follow the Pacman’s footsteps.

Pacquiao and the PSC will be staging the PSC-Pacquiao Boxing Cup on December 16 and 17 at General Santos with the hope to initiate a series of these events across the country. After the preliminary in Gensan, the Mindanao Quarter Finals will be conducted in Kidapawan (Feb. 10-11) while the Mindanao Semi-finals will be on Cagayan de Oro City on March 3.

The Mindanao Finals will then be hosted by Davao on March 24, 2018.

This contest will also coincide with the celebration of Pacquiao’s birthday in General Santos City on December 17.

Note that Pacquiao also fought in amateur boxing before deciding to turn professional in 1995. Known as Kid Kulafu during his days under GenSan boxing man Rey Golingan. Pacquiao won eight world titles in as many weight classes since then.

As we all know Mindanao has a reputation of producing world-class champions.

Other Mindanaoan world champions include Rene Barrientos and Rolando Navarrette and current world super-flyweight king Jerwin Ancajas.
