29 Jul PH to Officially Host Miss Universe in January 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay
“The Miss Universe beauty pageant will be on January 30, 2017 here in the Philippines,” said Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo during a news briefing. “We have a President who comes from Mindanao and our Miss Universe is from Mindanao so I think it is the best time for us to do Miss Universe in the Philippines.”
The cost for the said event amounting an estimate of $11 million will be shouldered by the private sector which will then be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Teo added that the other events for the pageant may be held in top tourist destinations in the Philippines namely Davao, Boracay, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Vigan and Palawan.

“There was never a ‘no’ from the President. His major concern was spending. But when we assured him that there will be no funding from the government, he said okay,” Tourism Undersecretary for Media Affairs Kat de Castro said.
