ILIGAN CITY– Rosendo Souviron, a politician who lost in the recent Barangay Elections, closed a road in San Roque, Iligan City, blocking residents and all passing vehicles.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Souviron closed his 26 square-meter-land and just left enough space for some residents to pass through.

“Hindi kasi sila ibinoto noong eleksyon. Nababahala kami kapag nagkasunog, di makakadaan ang mga firetruck,” [It’s because they weren’t voted in the last election. We are now worried that if a fire breaks out, firetrucks won’t be able to pass.] said a resident of San Roque.

In his defense, Souviron stated that he bought the said land 5 years ago and he was just letting people pass through it. He also expressed that he just wants to make use of it now.

San Roque’s Punong Barangay, Humberto Ermac, has already filed a complaint to Iligan City officials, but Souviron demanded a few conditions before opening the land again.

His conditions include the proper auditing of barangay funds, drainage repair, and the installation of a traffic light in the barangay.
