18 Dec President Duterte Supports Same-Sex Marriage

Last Sunday, December 17, President Rodrigo Duterte attended the 7th LGBT Davao Year-end Gathering at the Azuela Cove, Davao City.
In his message to the LGBT community, Duterte said that he will support same-sex marriage and that the law governing marriage can be amended.
“Ako gusto ko same-sex marriage (I want same-sex marriage). Ang problema (the problem is) we’ll have to change the law. But we can change the law,” Duterte stated referring to the Family Code which specifies marriage between a man and a woman.
Duterte also added that he doesn’t have a problem with a man marrying a man, or a woman or whatever is the predilection of a human being.
He also wants the LGBT community to nominate a representative from their sector for a new commission which the government is yet to set up.
As we all know, the Catholic Church is against same-sex marriage. In regards to this, the President said that he’ll stand firm against any oppression or discrimination during his term. And the government would recognize the LGBT community’s importance in our society.
