13 Jun Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro to Host Inter-School Chessfest on June 18-19

This coming June 18 to 19, in line with the celebration of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro’s 21st anniversary, an inter-school chess tournament will be held at Gaisano Mall here in Cagayan de Oro. It will be open for elementary and secondary students.
The said two-day chessfest will have a free registration, and trophies await the top three winners for each category and medals will be given to the best performers, said SSCDO general manager Leonides “Jack” Biantan. “We’ve learned that coming na ang yearly tournaments sa Milo ug Shell. So, at least maka-contribute ang Sun.Star para ma-ready ang mga bata ini nga mga events.”
Private and public schools such as Xavier University, Oro Christian Grace School, Corpus Christi, Liceo de Cagayan University, MOGCHS, City High, City Central School, and among others are expected to join this first Sun.Star Inter-school open Chess Tournament. Some schools outside Cagayan de Oro are also anticipated to join the said tournament, said Lorenzo “Jun” Cuizon, chief arbiter.
