Top Salons and Barber Shops to Get the Best Haircut in Cagayan de Oro

Haircuts for the guys are just as important as hair-styling for the ladies, unless a guy wants to grow their hair as long as Axel Rose’s hair. For men, good grooming often starts with having a stylishly cut or manicured hair style. Men are often just as picky and critical with their barbers or hair dressers as women are.

In Cagayan de Oro, a progressive metropolis such as this has seen the proliferation of literally hundreds of barber shops and hair salons for men, as well as for the ladies. So, here’s a selection of some of the top barber shops and hair salons for men in the city. As always, should we have missed your favorite place, we do hope that it isn’t in some backyard place in the remotest barangay at the boundaries, or inside some market place.

Sanctuary Beauty Care and Wellness

This was the formerly Sanctuary Spa and Salon that has since transferred to its bigger home at the 2nd floor of the Grand Central Arcade at the corner of Pabayo and Arch. Hayes Streets in the downtown area. The wide array of services offered include hair grooming such as general haircut, hair rebonding/hot oil/cellophane treatment, and scalp and dandruff treatment. They treat their male customers just as delicately as their female ones, which is why there is a continuous influx of male customers to their hair salon.

David’s Salon

David’s Salon has three locations in the city, these being at the corner of Don A. Velez and T. Chavez Streets (beside Nature’s Pensionne), at the ground floor of the Robinson’s Supercenter, Limketkai Center, and at the SM City Mall Oro.

Carlo Reyes Salon

For a salon that specializes in hair care, Carlo Reyes has earned a reputation being one of the oldest hair salons in the country to locate in the city.

When Bruno’s first opened at the Ayala Centrio Mall, its name seems to have caught on with many customers for reasons still unexplained until now. The name “Bruno” probably has a charismatic draw to it. It caters to both male and female customers.

This barber shop located at the corner of 12th and 22nd Streets in Nazareth also doubles as a tattoo shop. The joke among students is that you need to be clear if you’re only there for a haircut lest you get tattooed on the head.

ACID has been known to sponsor DJ events around the city as well as some of the best tattoo artists in CDO. But seriously, if you’re just there for a haircut, their barber specialists (as they like to be called) are really good and know all the modern stuff.

This hair salon is located at the Elipe Park in Carmen, in front of Liceo de Cagayan University. They offer general haircut, cold scalp treatment, hair coloring, hair spa, hot oil treatment, and Keratin smoothing therapy treatment for really damaged hair.

Gaisano City Mall Barber Shop

This barber shop is located at the basement parking area of the Gaisano Mall beside the elevators. It’s an elongated shaped barber shop that twists around. When it first opened it was exclusively a male-only barber shop but now they have hair dressers that cater to female clientele as well. The entrance sort of twists around at a bend so you’ll need to watch your head if you’re a bit tall. The place is more affordable than most salons.

Kismet Barber Shop

We cannot start off this list without mentioning Cagayan de Oro’s oldest existing barber shop. When this medium sized barber shop opened in the early 1980’s at the corner of Capistrano and RN Abejuela Streets (now occupied by the BPI Family Bank building), it was the go-to barber shop of virtually all the schools within the boundaries of Divisoria as well as on Don A. Velez Streets and Capistrano Streets.

Today, it is still located in Divisoria with a bigger space at the corner of Capistrano and Tirso Neri Streets (beside Palawan). A few of the barbers there are still the original barbers from the original location. Enter the place and you’ll hear the old-style bantering and laughter of barbers reminiscent of traditional barber shops. And their haircuts are still the most affordable in the city.
