A woman who admitted to being the wife of the slain Maute terrorist leader, Omar Maute, was apprehended by police authorities last Sunday, November 5, at a house in Steele Makes Village, Barangay Tubod, Iligan City.

In an article from Manila Bulletin, the Police Regional Office 10 police identified the woman as Minhati “Baby” Madrais who holds an Indonesian passport and was living with her children during the time of the arrest.

Found inside the house of Madrais were essential materials used to create Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), among which are four blasting caps, and a time fuse.

According to Iligan City Police Chief Supt. Leony Roy Ga, the presence of the Omar Maute’s wife was established through the photos where the terrorist was shown together with her.

In addition, Ga said that police authority will still determine if Madrais has participated in any of the attacks and the over five months of siege laid by the Maute fighters in Marawi City in which her husband served as one of its leaders.

Authorities will also further investigations to determine if she still has any contact with other members of the said armed group.

Madrais, on the other hand, told investigators that she was brought to Iligan City right after the onset of the war by individuals she was not able to identify.

She will be facing criminal charges for possessing illegal explosives and her children will be taken care of by police authorities with the help of the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) Office.
