On Sunday, July 31, PLDT and Smart Communications installed a Smart Wifi at the Laguidingan Airport, being as one of Smart’s 21 major transport hubs identified by the DOTr for installation of Smart Wifi, as laid out by the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and PLDT and Smart chairman, president and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan.

The airport caters around 2,000 passengers daily. With this installation of the Smart Wifi, the experience of the travelers will surely be improved.

The bandwidth of the installed Wifis is up to 1 gigabit per second. With Smart’s vision of providing a world-class digital experience, the passengers won’t get cheap connectivity with its current installed speed.

Transportation Undersecretary Roberto Lim said, “Connectivity is important for a country of many islands like the Philippines. Smart Wifi is just the first in a series of projects that the Department of Transportation intends to roll out in the coming days in partnership with PLDT and Smart.”

Lim also added, “A tourist’s impression of a country will be largely based on the first and last experience of his destination. Smart Wifi contributes to improving this experience and to the success of having them come over and visit again.”

Since the first and last impressions of tourists came from airports and other terminals, this installation of the Smart wifi in Laguindingan airport will help boost the tourist satisfaction in the Philippines. It will surely help expand the connectivity of the people from different Islands in the Philippines.

Eric R. Alberto, Executive Vice President at PLDT and Smart and President and CEO of ePLDT said, “The installation of Smart Wifi in the Laguindingan airport is part of our commitment to improve the Internet access and coverage nationwide. With the data connectivity, travelers will get to enjoy a seamless digital experience for more productive and meaningful journeys.”

With the rising demand of Wifi hotspots in the country, public areas will be installed by Wifi connections, such as city halls, schools, hospitals, and establishments such as malls, restaurants, and coffee shops.
