04 Jan 132 inmates escaped as armed men attacked NorthCot Jail
Early Wednesday morning, Super Radyo DzBB reported that at least 132 inmates escape from the North Cotabato District Jail (NCDJ) as armed men attacked the facility.
In a report by GMA News, at least one jail guard was killed while an inmate was injured.
The incident happened around 4 a.m. and according to the NCDJ OIC Supt. Peter Bungat around 100 armed men attacked the jail facility.
Bungat said they weren’t able to identify the group however they suspected that they were from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).
Bungat added that the jail housed many high-profile inmates. The hundred armed men wore black suits with high-powered firearms and rescued prisoners who are mostly members of the 105th Command of the BIFF under Ombra Kato.
Among those who escaped are the Tamayan brothers, who are facing murder charges and Salik brothers who are charged for drug traficking.
Felix Capalla, one of the leader inmates at the jail, said that he warned Bungat that there will be a major rescue operation months before the incident.
