1st COVID-19 Kappa Variant Case Detected In PH

Mga higala! The first Kappa variant case (B.1.617.1) of COVID-19 was recently reported in the Philippines!

The said variant was detected in a 32-year-old male from Floridablanca, Pampanga who exhibited mild symptoms.

However, this man has already recovered months ago since his sample was taken way back on June 2. His case was just detected late because older samples were prioritized to trace the possible sources of Delta variant cases.

ICYDK, the Kappa variant was formerly tagged as a variant of interest but was redesignated by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a variant under monitoring.
