24 Apr 21 Residents Hospitalized Due to Dirty Water in Misamis Oriental, Possible Cholera and Amoebiasis Observed
Over the weekend, 21 residents in Dawayan Village, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, were hospitalized due to excessive vomiting and LBM or Loose Bowel Movement, which is said to be caused by a water contamination.
According to an article by Sunstar, to confirm if the incident was caused by a dirty water supply, health officers are now conducting water sampling, surveillance and rectal swab procedures for possible diagnosis of Cholera or Amoebiasis.
“Ang LBM ug vomiting sintomas sa mga sakit sama sa cholera ug amoebiasis pero dili pa siya confirm kay wala pay final diagnosis,” said Rhanndy Akut, chief of Misamis Oriental Cares (MisOr Cares).
Affected residents are now admitted to various hospitals in Jasaan, Tagoloan, and Cagayan de Oro City.
Furthermore, authorities suspect that the incident was because of a contamination of an artesian well in the area. Sanitary inspectors are now administering a chlorination procedure and the capitol has sent a medical team to distribute medicines in the affected community.
