According to a report from Sunstar, around 256 families were forced to evacuate their homes after soldiers clashed with NPA members in Brgy. Sinampongan, Aloran, Misamis Occidental earlier this week.

This happened when members of the 10th Infantry Battalion (IB) under the 1st Infantry Division encountered 20+ guerrillas while conducting combat operations against the New People’s Army (NPA) due to reports of extortion and forced recruitment.

The encounter started around 3 pm, March 19 and lasted for a whole evening, spreading to nearby villages. This forced the residents of the said barangay and its neighboring areas to leave their homes. They are now temporarily staying at the five (5) different evacuation centers in the region.

Misamis Occidental’s disaster office, the police, and the military are now collaborating to assist the displaced families.
