Three members of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO)-Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) namely Police Officer 3 (PO3) Lyndon Ramiro, PO2 Imer Mabaylan Jr., and PO2 Stanley Pinguit received P10,000 and plaques of recognition from the city government last May 8, 2017 for helping out a Filipino-Irish tourist last March 18 of this same year.

Filipino-Irish tourist Christine Faith Cortez extended her gratitude to the three police officers through a letter she sent to Senior Superintendent Roy Bahian.

Retelling the event on the eve of March 18, Cortez just came back to her hotel room from a party when she realized she forgot her belongings inside the taxi she took a ride in. She said that she initially asked for help from the hotel staffs to look for the taxi’s plate number through their CCTV but to no avail.

The following day, she sought the help of the three members of the city’s bomb squad which were on patrol then. It was only then that a CCTV footage was accessed and revealed the plate number of the taxi Cortez had ridden.

The taxi driver was then identified by authorities and said he was not aware of the bag containing Cortez’s belongings inside his vehicle’s trunk.

PO2 Mabaylan did not expect to receive any recognition or cash after that incident. He said that he wanted to be a role model to other policemen out there by helping those in need of their service without expecting something in return.
