30 May 39 killed During Military’s May 24 Operations Against Local Terror Group in Lanao del Sur
On May 24, the 2nd wave of military operations against the local terror group “Maute” killed 39 individuals. 2 from the military, 37 from the Maute group. The bombardment started early last week after the Maute group regrouped in Butig town who staged terrorist activities.
According to Col. Roseller Murillo, Wowwie Mimbantas who is a son of former Moro Islamic Liberation Front leader Aleem Mimbantas was among the slain suspects.
The military used OV-10 bombers and 81mm mortars since Sunday last week shelling and airstriking the terror group’s lair and continued until Monday morning. After almost two weeks of operations in February, the military claimed to have gained control of the Maute Group’s lair in the said town.
The Maute group claimed to have been responsible with the bombing of transmission towers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
