20 May 46 Groups Hailed as Party List Winners!
On Thursday, May 19, 46 groups has been proclaimed winners in the party-list elections by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), Commission on Elections (Comelec).
20% of the seats in the House of Representatives are allocated by the Constitution for the Party List or 59 seats.
The occupation of the seats will start on June 30.
Among the 59 seats that have been designated, only Ako Bicol got the maximum seats of 3 that is allowed per Party List. 11 others were allowed to have 2 seats each. The remaining 34 organizations that have won got 1 seat each.
Ako Bicol has collected a staggering 1,664,975 votes or 5.143% of the total votes.

However, after the winners have been announced, the 2nd-placer Gabriela who have garnered 1,340,415 votes or 4.3% of the total votes said that the NBOC should review the percentages of the allocated seats. It has been known that 20% of the seats in the House is 59.5 or 60 seats for allocation. Thus, they are appealing that the NBOC should merit Gabriela 3 seats instead of 2.
Comelec Commissioner Christian Lim said that the Comelec en banc will handle the party-list organizations’ proposals next week to change their lists of nominees before certifications will be given.
The Party List system has been created to properly represent marginalized sectors and groups in the House of Representatives.
For this year’s election, 115 Party List groups joined the Party-List race.
