24 Aug 4 Members of NPA, Killed during a Military Offensive in Agusan del Sur
On August 20, two days before Oslo talks between the Duterte administration and National Democratic Front (NDF), 4 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed in a military offensive in San Luis, Agusan del Sur.
Around 8:30 a.m. at Sitio Kihinggay, Barangay San Pedro, a unit of the NPA-Western Agusan del Norte-Agusan del Sur Subregional Command was conducting a “classroom activity” then military troops of the 26th Infantry Battalion raided the area said Allan Juanito, spokesperson of the NPA.
Killed NPA troops were Winston “Ka Jerom” Mondejar, Henry “Ka James” Mansuconan, Jomar “Ka Alay” Tawide and Abel “Ka Gabriel” Oliver. Juanito added that during the combat a comrade was also injured.
He added, “Even though fatally shot, Ka Gabriel, before his last breath, was able to heroically switch the command-detonated explosive chanced upon the flanked troops. According to civilian witnesses, more than ten casualties were suffered by 26th IB troopers.”
On the other hand, the Army said that there are no military men who were injured or killed. Also, according to the Army, the government units who responded to reports of “rebel extortion” in the area were attacked by the NPAs, initiated the combat.
The families of the killed rebels said to have seen evidence of abuse on the bodies before it was sent to the morgue, Juanito said.
Three AK47, two M16 rifles, two ICOM radios, 20 bag packs and rebel documents were confiscated by the Army.
