Around 678 reams of counterfeit cigarettes were seized by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Northern Mindanao yesterday in the Municipality of San Fernando and Valencia City, Bukidnon.

According to a report by Sun Star, the NBI-Northern Mindanao swooped down on Mulleon Store in San Fernando and at Chims Minimart in Valencia City and found boxes of counterfeit Marvel cigarettes, the proprietary rights of which is owned by Mighty Corporation.

Thirteen boxes were confiscated in Mulleon Store while 37 reams of fake Marvel cigarettes and 46 boxes of fake Mighty cigarettes were taken from Chims Minimart.

Owner Mulleon Store Ricardo Rabago Jr. said he had no idea the purchased cigarettes were faked since it was offered by a supplier at a cheaper price.

Rabago said he will cooperate with the NBI and revealed that the boxes were offered around P12,000 per box compare to the original of P18,000.

NBI said that the seizures were efforts to curb the proliferation of fake cigarettes in the province. They are now finding the source and suppliers of the counterfeit items.
