29 Jun 8,000 ammunition found in Barangay Camaman-an in CdeO
During an operation in a garage of a cargo forwarding office in Barangay Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City, 8,000 rounds of high-powered ammunition were confiscated by authorities.
In an article from Sunstar.com, operatives said that a K9 sniffing dog has spotted a slightly opened box and sat beside it which indicated that there was a presence of nitrate compound.
It was later found out that there were eight boxes containing 6,000 pieces of 5.56mm for M16 rifle and 2,000 others of 30 caliber.
City intelligence unit (CIU) Head, Chief Inspector Ariel Philip Pontillas, revealed that the items were in the city since April of this year and were suspected to be delivered to Marawi City based on the information from the intelligence community.
However, authorities were not able to find any information if the bullets found together with items will also be used.
Authorities tried to locate the person of interest who would have claims to the firearms but it was later found out that the suspect has already surrendered to the Martial Law Special Action Group (MLSAG).
The full identity of the suspect was not disclosed but was said to be a taxi driver who was supposed to be the middleman of another person who would pick up the items. Both of them, unnamed, will be facing charges accordingly.
The confiscated ammunition units are now in the custody of COCPO.
