Top 8 Restaurant Fries in Cagayan de Oro

Ah, the venerable, veritable, and delicious French Fries. This is probably the most consumed form of fast food next to the burger. It is consumed during mealtimes, as a snack, and is the easiest fast food that can be carried around and eaten. Because of its extreme popularity, many restaurants around the world – restaurants in Cagayan de Oro City included – have seen fit to create their own type of French Fries, creating more flavors for it, or just simply echoing its originality, but with a slight twist.

Be advised that our selection in this article is based on actual menu inquiries and personal tasting from the past. If by any chance we missed your favorite restaurant that serves French fries, we do hope that this isn’t located in the Cogon or Carmen Market areas. For obvious reasons, we omit from this article a couple of famous fast food restaurants that serve French fries, and the restaurants featured occupy no particular order.

Did You Know?

The term “French fries” is American. The British call it “chips,” the Indians call it “finger chips,” and the French call it “French-fried potatoes.” French-fried potatoes or “pommes patatas frites” in French first appeared in France when street vendors started selling them on the Pont Neuf Bridge in Paris in 1789. However, the term “French fries” did not originate in France, but in Belgium during World War I. When the Belgian Army and other allied armies came together in Belgium, the British and American soldiers had a taste of “Belgian fries” similar in cooking to the French “pommes patatas frites.” However, the British and Americans mistakenly began calling the food “French Fries” because they mistakenly thought they were in France since the Belgian Army’s official language was French.

This term soon spread and became popular almost all over the world, especially during World War II when Americans were once again fighting in Belgium and France and got a taste of Belgian/French fries. In fact during World War II, the American company J.R. Simplot is credited with successfully commercializing frozen French fries. In 1967, McDonald’s contracted the Simplot Company to supply them with the frozen fries. It is estimated that 32% of the world’s potato crop is used to make French fries, of which 90% of this is consumed by the food service sector.

The food is affordable and many will argue that Loreto’s still serves the best Kinilaw, Sisig, and Bulalo dishes. However, one surprising dish on their menu is their French fries which are cut differently and bigger than the normal fries you see, and what adds to it is their dip that makes their fries extra yummy. Unfortunately, the cooks won’t spill the beans to reveal the ingredients of their fries dip, but it’s guaranteed to be delicious.
