On January 17, Tuesday around 9:30 p.m., twenty-seven (27) armed men including a 16-year-old boy were arrested at a military checkpoint in borders of barangay Matampay, Marawi City, and Mipaga, Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur.

According to a report from Sun.Star, the armed men were led by a certain Aleem Abdulaziz Aminodin who recognizes himself as a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) member.

The soldiers promptly established checkpoints in the area as they have received information concerning the armed men from a tipster, said Colonel Joselito Pastrana, commanding officer of the Army’s 65th Infantry Battalion.

It was said that the armed men were bound to Saguiran riding four vehicles.

Aminodin, the supposed leader of the group explained before Pastrana that they were going to rescue his daughter who was allegedly kidnapped by a rebel commander in Lanao del Norte.

A loaded M60 machine gun, a Barrett rifle, an M14 rifle, an M1 Garand rifle, an M16 Bushmaster, and some handguns were confiscated by the authorities.

The impounded firearms were forwarded to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for ballistics tests.
