In an article from Sunstar.com, the Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is already speeding up the construction of the river dike project in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental and is now on its 44% completion.
The project costs about P667 million and is funded by the Official Development Assistance from the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
On the recently concluded 7th meeting of Flood Mitigation Committee (FMC) for the Tagoloan River Sub-project, Engineer Alejandro Sosa, Project Manager and concurrent Regional Project Manager for DPWH-Northern Mindanao, said that the structural measures were done to decrease the chances of flooding around the area.
This was done through the construction of “…flood protection dike, excavation of towhead area and sluiceway in the first stage of the construction located at Barangay Sta. Cruz, as well as dike embankment with revetment and partition walls, excavation of river channel, drainage improvement and two drainage sluiceway in Stage in the same barangay and a small section in Barangay Tambobong in Villanueva town”.
Some of the non-structural procedures implemented along the project in Sta.
