According to an article by Sunstar CDO, the Department of Social Welfare and Development of Northern Mindanao has allocated over P1 billion for the social pensions of 186,760 indigent senior citizens for 2018.

DSWD-Northern Mindanao Social Pension Focal Person, Daisy Ramos, said that billion-peso-fund will be distributed to the 34,378 senior citizens in Bukidnon, 6,339 seniors in Camiguin, 46,026 in Lanao del Norte, 46,245 in Misamis Oriental, and 53,772 senior citizens in Misamis Occidental.

Ramos also said they are exerting efforts for the approval of some 14,000 additional slots in order to admit more senior citizens for the program. They also want to expand and include seniors who are receiving pensions from other government agencies worth less than P5,000.

However, Ramos added that some politicians are using the social pension program for their own interests. And caused many delays in the distribution of funds for our senior citizens.

DSWD is currently doing their best by visiting local government units and even barangays to validate the list of beneficiaries. They are also focusing their efforts to avoid delays in the release of social pensions.
