01 Aug Northern Mindanao Now Under Heightened Security Alert- PNP
Mga higala! A heightened alert level in Northern Mindanao has been announced by the Philippine National Police (PNP), due to the recent and tragic ‘car bomb’ explosion that killed 11 people at Lamitan City, Basilan.
In accordance with this, Regional Director PCSupt. Timoteo Pacleb has ordered all PNP units to strengthen security measures all over the region. The following statements have been released by PNP-10:
“The strengthening of security is just a proactive measure to preempt adverse incidents in the coming days or months. There is really no cause for alarm. Let us just all be vigilant by reporting dubious personalities or suspicious activities happening in your surroundings.”
“Although no report of imminent threat has been monitored as of late, we cannot really discount possibilities. Hence, we must always be vigilant.”
“There will be frequent checkpoints and security inspections in public places like malls, public transport terminal and areas of convergence in the coming days and our personnel might be very strict in their conduct of inspections. We will again seek your kind understanding and cooperation for us to better serve the people and ensure public safety.”
–PRO-10 Spokesperson PSupt. Surki A. Sereñas
An official statement regarding this matter has also been given by Mayor Oscar Moreno:
As of now, there is still no cause for immediate alarm, but Mindanaons are advised to be vigilant.
