13-Year-Old Confirmed As Youngest HIV Victim In Mindanao For 2018

Mga higala! A 13-YEAR-OLD from Davao City was recently recorded to be the youngest person in Mindanao this 2018, infected with HIV or the human immunodeficiency virus due to sexual intercourse.

According to SunStar Davao, no additional details were revealed by the Davao City Aids Council (DCAC) due to confidentiality, but, based on their data, at least seven (7) minors have been infected with HIV since January 1984.

DCAC Secretariat, Pricilla Senoc, stated in a media forum that young people are now immensely exposed with the influence of social media and that as early as 13 years old, some are already having sex which has become an alarming trend among our youth.

In case you don’t know, 459 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) cases have been reported in Cagayan de Oro City, from 2000 to March 2018. And, the majority of those who were tested for HIV in the 15-24 age group, have yielded positive results.

Moreover, the City Health Office (CHO) is urging the public to visit the Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Center in Cagayan de Oro, in order to get tested.

 

Note: The youngest person to infected with HIV in Mindanao is a 4-year old boy from Zamboanga, recorded in 2015.
