DPWH Road Widening To Possibly Damage The Historical Macahambus Cave Of CDO

Mga higala! The Cagayan de Oro City Council on TOURISM is now expressing concern regarding a road widening project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), that could destroy the historical Macahambus Cave at Barangay Bayanga.

According to a report by Sunstar CDO, Councilor Jay Roa Pascual has requested a meeting with the DPWH and stated that the roadworks could damage the cave and its entire area if the widening is continued.

Pascual also added that Macahambus is a historical site and should not be destroyed in exchange for the project.

“To sacrifice one’s history is like erasing one’s part. More importantly, the area of Macahambus Hill where the Macahambus cave is located is where the Cagayanons won its first victory against the Americans during the war on June 4, 1900. That is why the National Historical Institute has placed its marker outside the cave entrance to protect it,” Pascual said. –Sunstar CDO
