Making Responsible Disposal A Business And Advocacy With Trashvocacy

By now I guess most of us already know that proper handling of Trash (or Junk) can be made into a business or an advocacy. But Trashvocacy (a startup from USTP’s incubation hub CDO b.i.t.e.s), had other things in mind and decided to make it both a business and an advocacy.

This advocacy operates with the knowledge that one of the main problems that people usually have with trash is not the sorting, collecting, and identifying of trash (or junks),  but the what to do with it which includes logistics, transportation, and proper handling.

With their simple tag line “Rethink Trash”, Trashvocacy aims to educate and advocate proper wastes segregation and responsible disposal by connecting establishments to local junk peddlers for a more capable, proper, and convenient disposal.

Currently they are now working with MRF Producers Cooperative composed mostly of residents from our previous City Landfill in Carmen.

So how does it work?

Initially, the interested client (private or institution) will reach out to Trashvocacy thru one of their founder Hope Cariño, to set an appointment or a scheduled pick-up for the items aimed for disposal.

During or prior to the agreed schedule, clients will be advised pre-sort the wastes for easier identification and clearing.

Light Metal and Wood

Lights (or light metals) will be seperated from wood or plastic materials, and will be weighed with its corresponding price.

Wood and Scrap Metals

Metal scraps can also be separated with the lights (light metal) to make it easer for them to identify and weight them. In most cases, they also accept wood scraps, which they can make as fire wood, but it will not be a part of the recyclables which they will be weighing and pricing.

Plastic and Glass Containers

Plastic, cans, and glass containers can also be joined together cause these materials are also easily collected and are priced well.

NOTE: Not all bottles are or can be sold.

Collection Process

After pre sorting the wastes, the disposal team (MRF Producers Cooperative) will then start to pack the things to carry for disposal.

How long does it take?

Time is an important factor in everything we do, and we’re pretty sure it is one of the concerns in considering such service, so to answer your question…. It’s not that long.

The disposal team is actually large team, and thats a good number of helping hands to ensure that everything from collecting, carrying, and transporting is done with caution and efficiency in mind.

It’s actually a sight to see when they work cause their developed technique and proper designation of work is highly visible. Others help in identifying each item while others do the lifting and reception.

Another set of crew are assigned to do the lifting

Each member helps and I guess this is the very message of this advocacy as well.

And another set does the reception from the transportation

The whole process doesn’t really take long, and this is not an exaggeration. In short, anyone can actually avail of their services even during their working ours as they don’t really take that much time.

Disposal Done

Disposal Done

After everything is done, you will realize that you’ve actually done more than just earn from your trash and clear up some space. In reality, you actually helped them (MRF Producers Cooperative and Trashvocacy) earn from the collected trash and practiced responsible disposal in the most convenient way possible.

What to Expect and Who Can Avail?

Since it is also a business as well as an advocacy, the selling price for the junk materials will be considerable lower than when you go directly to a junk shop. But, this is really to be expected since they also need to earn from the service rendered, not to mention the convenience you get from it.

Basically this is intended for everyone. A household, a company, or an institution.

With this, we can gradually help ourselves, their advocacy, a community, and our beloved planet one step at a time.

And by the way, they also accept purely disposal services only, and the price will depend on the scale of work and contents to be handled.
