04 May Local Health Officials Consider Mental Health As Important During COVID-19 Pandemic
Last Saturday, May 2, 2020, health officials in Cagayan de Oro said that mental health should also be considered as an important concern during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Based on data from the City Social Welfare and Development for March 1 to May 1, they have recorded a total of 7 suicide cases. According to City Health Office chief Dr. Lorraine Nery, these cases were not related to the pandemic but were likely caused by depression.
As an effort to help and to prevent further cases like this, the Department of Health in Region 10 (DOH-10) had initiated the “DOH NorMin Kumusta Ka” hotline for those who are experiencing distressful circumstances imposed by the pandemic, said Dr. Ian Gonzales who is a medical officer at the mentioned agency.
