15 Jan Sen. Gatchalian Pushes For “SIM Card Registration” Bill In PH To Track Scammers & Other Criminals

Mga higala! Senator Win Gatchalian is now again pushing for the approval of Senate Bill No. 176 or the SIM Card Registration Act, which implements the mandatory registration of SIM CARDS in the Philippines!
With this bill, all prepaid users will be required to register their existing SIM cards or will need to register and provide a valid ID and picture if they want to buy or acquire one. All users will need to fill-up and sign a numbered registration form from their service provider.
A copy of the registration will then be given to the National Telecommunications Commission.
This aims to greatly help in tracking and catching scammers, fraudsters, and other criminals.
If approved, this measure will allow the authorities to extract registration details like the name, date of birth, and address of a phone number/user who is suspected to be involved in illegal activities.
