Mga higala! The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) have recently expressed their intent to ban sari-sari stores from selling medicines!

According to reports, the said agencies are urging local government units (LGUs) to enact ordinances that will implement the ban.

This is due to multiple reports showing that fake medicines, including so-called COVID-19 medications, have been proliferating in small retail stores all over the country.

Moreover, the FDA and the DILG have emphasized that regardless of the issue above, sari-stores are already not allowed to sell the said products.

ICYDK, under Republic Act No. 10918 (Section 30), only FDA-licensed retail drug outlets or pharmacies are allowed to sell drugs and medicine to the public.
